This lavish silver and bejeweled box is an outstanding example of the refined Art Nouveau taste that was rapidly capturing the public’s attention in early twentieth-century Russia. The design of sinuous peacock feathers ornamented with enamels, pearls, and diamonds demonstrates the mastery of the Bolin firm, which was established in St. Petersburg in 1790 and which had a long association with the Imperial Russian Court. The House of Bolin continues to operate to this day in Stockholm.
