Welcome to Hillwood’s online collections database. The database allows users to access information on a select number of objects in our extensive collection of 18th and 19th-century European and Russian decorative arts, as well as paintings, sculpture, metalwork, textiles, and costumes. At this time, only a small portion of our collection is accessible online, but more objects and images will be added on a regular basis.
Search the Collection
To search the collection, select the Objects link at the top of the page. From the Objects page, users may search by category, maker, object name, title, or accession number. The Advanced Search feature allows users to select multiple search parameters. For additional information on how to use the search features, please see the search tips below.
Search by Category
To search by category, click on the link above. Select a category from the alphabetical list (e.g. paintings), or enter the category into the search box and click the Search button.Search by Maker
To search by Maker, click on the link above for an alphabetical list. Once you’ve located the appropriate maker name, click on it to start the query, or enter the maker’s name into the search box and click the Search button.Search by Object Name
To search by Object Name, or the common name of the object (e.g. chair), click on the link above. Select a letter for an alphabetical list of object names, or enter the object name into the search box and click the Search button.Search by Title
To search by a specific title (e.g. Portrait of Catherine II), click on the link above. Select a letter for an alphabetical list of item names, or enter the title of the work into the search box and click the Search button.Search by Accession Number
If you know the accession number of an object, enter it into the search box and click the Search button.Advanced Search
With an advanced search, users can enter one or more criteria by typing in a keyword or by selecting terms from available pop-up lists. To use the Advanced Search feature, click on the menu option at the top of the page.
Search Publications
To search for publications by Hillwood’s Curatorial staff, click on the Publications menu option at the top of the page. Users may then select Publication Author, Publication Date, or Publisher from the Browse By menu at the right for alphanumeric pop-up lists. With an advanced search, users can enter one or more criteria by typing in a keyword or by selecting terms from available pop-up lists. To use the Advanced Search feature, click on the menu option at the top of the page. Related publication information is also listed in individual object records.
Search Exhibitions
To search for current and past exhibitions at Hillwood, click on the Exhibitions menu option at the top of the page. This page also contains exhibitions that were organized by other institutions and featured an object or objects from our collection. For basic information on an exhibition, click on the Exhibition Information link. To see a list of objects included in the exhibition, select Object List.
